Integrated Platform for Biomolecular Function, Interactions and Structure

The BIOFINS platform concentrates key technologies into a single resource and consolidates a powerful array of specialized technologies for biomolecular interaction analysis including proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, small molecules, and cells/viruses.

Through increased accessibility and awareness of our instruments and by offering advanced scientific training, BIOFINS facilitates leading-edge, high-impact research in a productive and affordable manner.

The instrumentation of BIOFINS is located in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Department of Biology.

Both departments are housed in the award-winning Richard J. Renaud Science Complex.

The Quebec Research Network on Protein Function, Structure and Engineering (PROTEO), provides some of the funding to run BIOFINS.

Our instrumentation

Our instruments fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism spectroscopy (CD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), preparative and analytical ultracentrifugation (PUC, AUC) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).

The DLS belongs to Dr. Jack Kornblatt and is located in the Department of Biology.

The AUC and ITC are owned by the Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics.
